WVMS STATEMENT: Severe Storms Take Historic 100 Checkered, Remainder of Event Canceled

(Mineral Wells, WV) – A great weekend was rolling along until severe storms came rolling in, wrecking havoc just before the finale of the Jan Dils Attorneys at Law β€œHistoric 100” presented by Arizona Sport Shirts on Saturday June 3rd.
Unfortunately, after much discussion among officials, the 'Historic 100' finale will not be made up. With little option for a suitable make-up date that wasn’t on a weeknight and/or conflicting with other events, West Virginia Motor Speedway and Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series officials have agreed that canceling the event and refunding fans is in everyone’s best interest.

Concerns with track speed and surface issues, as well as difficulty finding a suitable make up date led teams and officials to mutually agree on canceling the remainder of the event. A disappointing ending to an otherwise great weekend at the revived West Virginia Motor Speedway.

Prior to severe storms hitting the speedway, hot laps, qualifying and heat race action was completed for the Lucas Oil Late Models. In addition, teams with the SCDRA Compact series were paid out upon agreeing not to return for a weekday make-up date. As well, Sport Mod teams were paid in full for completion of their event.

West Virginia Motor Speedway will be giving a $40 refund to anyone with a two-day or Saturday only general admission or pit pass armband. Kids 3-8 pit armbands for two-day and/or Saturday will be refunded $20. Those armbands can be mailed to the address below. Refunds will be issued upon receipt of correct armbands in the form of a check and mailed to the respective return address. A deadline on refunds of Aug. 1, 2023, is in place.

ADDRESS TO MAIL ARMBANDS:
West Virginia Motor Speedway
P.O. Box 21
Paden City, WV 26159

For Saturday’s preliminary action, West Virginia Motor Speedway will also award $1,000 to each of the 25 teams that were scheduled to start the Historic 100 A-Main on Saturday as a gesture of appreciation.

West Virginia Motor Speedway would like to thank everyone for their support this weekend and will now look toward Saturday July 1's American Flat Track Motorcycle event. More info on that event is available at www.AmericanFlatTrack.com.
