Anchorage Mansion, 424 George St. in Marietta. Hidden Marietta Tour Co., Marietta, Ohio.
Check https://www.hiddenmarietta.com/ for days and times. Includes 1.5 hour tour (guided or self-guided depending on time you choose) and 30-minute paranormal investigation using their ghost hunting equipment! The nights are getting longer, and the spookiest time of year will soon be upon us! Book a private Anchorage Mansion paranormal investigation for your group.
This once stunning Italianate mansion was the home of Marietta’s wealthiest couple, Douglas and Eliza Putnam. It was built for Eliza, at her special request, but she died just three short years after it was completed. She is said to still be seen, however, standing forlornly in the tower or at the top of the main staircase. Later, other families came to live in the house, but after the last owner died in the early 1960s, the building became a nursing home. Many spirits are said to reside in this lonely mansion, including a little girl who is seen all over the house and has been heard calling out by many visitors. Sounds of a gurney can be heard on the upper floors, as well as footsteps and the sound of sighing, talking and screams.
Bring your private investigation group and spend six hours overnight in the mansion and see what you can find! Flat fee of $500 for up to eight people, each additional participant is $65. 740-373-1788.

Always worth the trip!

The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum (formerly the Weston State Hospital), below, was constructed between 1858 and 1881 and is the largest hand-cut stone masonry building in North America. The original hospital, designed to house 250 souls, was open to patients in 1864 and reached its peak in the 1950s with 2,400 patients in overcrowded and generally poor conditions. Changes in the treatment of mental illness and the physical deterioration of the facility forced its closure in 1994.
Step into a realm shrouded in the chilling echoes of forgotten whispers, where the corridors of what was once a revered institution have morphed into a playground of deranged malevolence. Here, a brilliant yet twisted physician has harnessed the very essence of his patients’ night terrors, breathing life into their most harrowing fears. The asylum, once a sanctuary of solace, now harbors the discarded remnants of society’s outcasts. Embark on a journey into this abyss of torment, where the lines between nightmares and reality blur beyond recognition. Dare to tread the path of the audacious and witness the transformation of patients into grotesque embodiments of the doctor’s most twisted imaginings.
Are you prepared to confront the chilling specters that dwell at the very heart of your sanity? The choice to step into the world of “Torment” beckons — will you answer its call? Embrace the Darkness, Endure the Torment.
Check the calendar for open dates. On Thursdays and Sundays, tickets stop being sold at 9:30 p.m., and Friday and Saturday nights at 11:30 p.m. Visit www.theasylumwv.com for more information or to purchase tickets or call 304-269-5070 for more information.
