According to information released by the Gas & Oil Association of West Virginia, during the period from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024, Tyler Countys 1,488 gas wells generated 667.5 Bcf per year and generated an estimated $97.3 million in oil & gas property tax revenue. Wetzel County, which placed third in the state, behind Marshall County, generated $52.9 million in oil & gas property tax revenue. Wetzel had 1,671 wells and produced a total of 434.1 Bcf. The top producers in the natural gas sector during the 2023-2024 fiscal year were Antero Resources with 1,232.9 Bcf/year, EQT Corporation with 663.9 Bcf/year and Expand Energy with 467 Bcf/ year. In the oil column, Expand Energy produced 7,326, 835 bbls/yr, Antero Resources, 4,921.960 bbl/yr and EQT Corp with 3,697,391 bbls/ yr. Statewide, gas and oil accounted for over $660 million in state revenue via severance and property taxes, provided 15,000 direct jobs and an additional 73,000 indirect jobs in the Mountain State.
