Aquatic salamander survey INNformer Page A6 Volume 10, No. 03 The Wells Inn, 316 Charles St. Sistersville, WV 26175 February 10, 2023 FULL HOUSE Matamoras FULL HOUSE council considers no traiffc light By Charles Winslow MATAMORAS, Ohio – Will Matamoras go from being a small one-stoplight town to a small no-stop- light town? That was one idea suggested Feb. 6 by two Ohio Department of Transportation oiffcials to the Matamoras Village Council at the first of their two regular monthly meetings. While there to address school zone questions, Eric Davis, District 10 traiffc engineer, said he had also inspected the traiffc light where Main Street bisects Second Street, Ohio Route 7. “I looked at the condi- tion of the heads and the poles. I am concerned about the condition of the poles, he said before ex- plaining the amount of traiffc that comes off of Main Street likely doesnt meet the states current signal warrants. The price of construction for a new traiffc signal, its supports and controllers would be in the $150,000 range with another $50,000 tacked on top for design. If ODOT felt the light was warranted, there would be grant money available for the replacement, Davis stated before adding he didnt think there would be enough traiffc. “If you decide to have a traiffc study – great, he said. “If its not warranted and you want to take it down, then ODOT would take it down. ODOT would replace the traiffc light, the first one at the location was likely installed in 1943, with a two- way stop sign. Village Clerk Carol Danver expressed a concern re- moving the signal would affect speed through the vil- lage, especially by the post oiffce, and asked if the traiffc light could be replaced with a flashing caution light but was told it wouldnt be. Prior to the traiffc light being removed, it would typically be placed on flash for 90 days to ease people into a different traiffc pattern, she was told. Davis also discussed two safety programs, a crash aversion program that would use crash data to sup- port it and require a 10 percent match, and a pedes- trian program that would be available next year. That program would be for projects that would improve systematic safety and for traiffc “calming items. Im- proved lighting along Route 7 would qualify. “The Continued on page A3 Paden City Council ponders quality of life By Charles Winslow PADEN CITY – Quality of life issues were on the mind of Paden City Police Chief Anthony Lauer Feb. 6 as Paden City Council met for their regular monthly meeting. “We are getting a lot of complaints about the same dogs. We have cited the dog owners but there isnt a lot of teeth with municipal court but I am not sure what we can do, Lauer lamented. He reminded residents dogs and cats running at-large in the city is illegal. “Some of these dogs are large, like pitbulls, and they can kill someone. The dog owners can be cited mul- tiple times. Licenses can be suspended, he said but Besides our area delegates noted one scolffaw hasnt had a license in many, Trenton Barnhart, Clay Riley, many years.
