The move to formally consolidate Wetzel Countys four high schools into two, at least ini- tially, was the subject of a special meeting of the Wetzel County Board of Education at the district oiffce at 9 a.m. Friday, Aug 30, just before the start of the Labor Day holiday weekend. Under the plan outlined during the special meet- ing, Paden City High School will be consolidated with New Martinsvilles Magnolia High School and Hundred High School will be consolidated with Pine Groves Valley High School for the 2025-2026 school year. The consolidated schools will have new names, school colors, mascots and mission statements. Paden Citys 7th and 8th grades, however, will be merged into New Martinsville Middle School as classes for those grades are held at PCHS but not at Magnolia. Commission talks drought WOODSFIELD, Ohio – The on- going drought was the main subject when the Monroe County Commis- sion met Monday, Aug. 26, for their weekly meeting. “The farmers are going to be in real trouble,” Mick Schumacher said. With many of the countrys streams and ponds dry because of the ex- treme drought local farmers have to buy water from local water utilities and the second cut for hay, needed to feed cattle during the winter, has been sparse. While Noble County has made an emergency declaration for water shortage, so far water systems in Monroe County are OK.
