Pre-application This year Picnic in the Park was ded- for Buckeye Hills icated to the memory of long-time or- ganizer Barbara Vincent, who died Jan. 9, 2024. development See more photos on A7. funds explained By Charles Winslow WOODSFIELD, Ohio – Representatives of the Buckeye Hills Regional Council were on hand at Monroe County Commissions regular meeting July 8 to give a brief overview of the process for ARC Area Development projects. “We are making our annual runs around our counties presenting the projects that were sub- mitted on behalf of the counties for pre-applica- tion for area development funds,” Sam Miller, development director for Buckeye Hills, said. She was accompanied by Emma Yeager, who recently assumed the position of development specialist at Buckeye Hills. Miller explained this years pre-application pro- cess has changed to include “county served doc- umentation to make sure that the county commissioners knew what was going on and to get input from local communities.” Six projects have been submitted on behalf of Monroe County seeking funding from the Appa- lachian Regional Commissions Area Develop- ment Program and the pre-application process is the first step for local oiffcials working with Buckeye Hills seeking funding from theARC and other state and federal funding sources. Of those six projects, three are related to the planned Appalachian Ecotone, the development slated for newly acquired land at the former Riv- erside Golf Course in Sardis, one is for the Sardis Wastewater and Collection System project, one was submitted for backwashing filters for Woods- field and the final one would serve three counties, Monroe, Morgan and Noble counties and pro- vide school based/ community healthcare facility equipment.
