Once installed, the docks will be anchored to the piles and left in the water year-round. “My goal is to help develop the riverfront,” said Gene Rice, operations manager of the Sistersville Ferry. A couple of years ago the Sistersville Ferry Board took over control of the old Yacht Club docks to increase and coordinate the focus on the riverfront. The successful Ohio River Ferryboat Festival July 30 drew people to events on both sides of the river. Now in its second year, the daylong event is sponsored by the Sistersville Ferry Board, with co-sponsors Monroe (Ohio) Arts & Visitor Center and the Jackson Township (Ohio) Trustees. The Yacht Club docks date back to the oil boom years of Sistersville and control of them was turned over to the city in the early 1980s. Previously the docks were removed in . early autumn and re-installed around Memorial Day The removal and storage led to damage and vandalism and the dock sections had deteriorated to the point where the wooden deck and barrel floats were no longer serviceable, leading to last year’s suspension. then again as soon as winter weather breaks. to restore the local transient docks. “Boat owners will now be able to leave their boats in The aluminum transient docks at the city’s park, used as long as they like,” said Rice, adding that dock rentals The project is expected to cost around $11,000 and is by boaters traveling the Ohio River, are also left in the will be half-price starting Oct. 1.
