But if you are like most of us, as the days dragged on, each one often colder than the day before, you dreaded trudging out to your car all the while praying the engine would crank yet another time, so you could get to work or wherever you needed to be. If there is a secret to maneuvering through these winter storms successfully, it is listening to the National Weather Service’s local weather forecast and heeding any warnings they issue to the public for safety. The exception to that, o f course, is tornados where sometimes you have only minutes to get to the safety of a shelter. Knowledge is power, and if you know a storm is expected, you can prepare by making sure you have the necessary food, medicine, water, pet food, supplies, and any other household items you may need on hand, so you won’t need to leave the safety of your home. The temperatures are termed unofficial because there is no recording station in Middlebourne. Meanwhile, Parkersburg reported -8 degrees Jan. 3, breaking the record of 3 degrees set in 1979.
