In a statement released last week on social media, the Shortline Ramp Festival said their decision was based, in part, on the difficulty finding a non-profit organiza- tion to run the ramp dinner. Held during April for the past four years, the festival had drawn hundreds of pungent vegetable-admiring fans each year to the Byrd Center and Park in Pine Grove. In addition to ramp-themed gifts and novelties, the festival was known for its signature ramp dinner, as well as their ramp- eating contest and cook off. “Cancelling the festival was not an easy decision,” the statement said. The organizers plan to meet in Novem- ber to assess interest and build support for relaunching the event next year. While the festival may be off, the 5K Fun Run and Walk is still on tap Saturday, April 21, and will benefit the Short Line Energy Kids, a Short Line school-based program that encourages students to take an interest in energy and education.
